“Come on,” Matt said as he turned back to the others. Joe came hoofing out from behind a bush with his net and stopped, holding his hands against the tree. Amanda slowed her run and starting looking around as Joe huffed and puffed. “We’re going to lose it if we don’t go now!”
“You’re too loud,” Amanda said as she turned towards Matt. Matt frowned. “That’s what’s driving the dragon off!”
“We’re so close! If we—”
“No, we’re not. You keeping scaring it away.” Amanda glanced at Joe. “And we’ve been running for ages. We should stop and have a rest.”
Joe sprung himself up and leaned against the tree. “I’m ok,” he said as he removed his cap. “It’s just hot.”
Amanda crossed her arms “No, you’re not.” She pointed at the floor. “Sit.”
“But it’s going to get away!” Matt said.
Amanda turned to Matt. “Mom said I was in charge today, so I’m looking after everyone.” She glanced back at Joe. “We’re taking a break.”
Joe sat, positioned the net next to the tree, and fanned himself with his cap. “I don’t need a break,” Matt said.
“Tough,” Amanda said. Matt rolled his eyes and looked around as the sun made it’s way downward.
Matt kicked some dirt into a nearby bush. “If we don’t get going now, it’s going to get too dark.”
“I don’t care,” Amanda said. “We’ve been running all day.”
Matt turned around. “But—”
Joe got to his feet and put his cap back on. “I’m okay,” he said. “We can keep going.” He smiled and took his net.
Amanda frowned. “We should still have five minutes or—” A rustle came from behind.
Matt turned and erupted into a run. “Let’s go!” he shouted.
“Come on, Amanda!” Joe said.
“Hey! Wait!” Amanda said.
